so much for studying...

We went to Bicentennial Park to celebrate Mel's birthday --> the weather was absolutely perfect and soon enough the bbq was underway =)

There was soo much food- different types of sausages, chicken wings, steak, bbq pork, 3 types of salads, bread rolls, not to mention all the snacks eg chips, Pringles, snakes, Natural Confectionary lollies.. the list goes on...

It was also interesting meeting new people, and getting re-acquainted with people we had met before, but completely forgotten their names! Those conversations went something like this:

*

Unknown: Hi, I'm [insert name here, let's call them Bob for now]
Me: Hi... *stares* do I know you from somewhere?
Bob: *stares back* yeaaah.... you look really familiar
Me: hmm were you at KYLC/some other Christian conference where you meet tons of people?
Bob: ohhhh was that last year? You know, the one where....

15 minutes later...

Me: HEY! Yeah I do remember you! Wow this is so cool.. so how have you been?

*

haha somehow it just always happens to me...either that, or I know them through a mutual friend =P

do your bit

Earth Hour - Saturday 31 March 2007, 7:30pm-8:30pm

At 7.30pm on 31 March 2007, we are inviting Sydney to turn off its lights for just one hour - Earth Hour - to show that it's possible to take action on global warming.

WWF-Australia and The Sydney Morning Herald are asking all of Sydney - its companies, government departments, individuals and families - to turn off their lights for just one hour. It's a simple action if everyone takes part, sending a powerful message that we care about the future of the planet.

Earth Hour is the launch of a 12 month campaign to reduce Sydney's greenhouse gas emissions by 5%. This could be achieved if all businesses and households turned off unused lights and appliances on standby.

But we need you to help make it happen.

"Excuse me, I'm looking for some bant?"

If you haven't seen Russell Peters, what he means to say is he's looking for some paint =P

But seriously, today after lunch we were at Bunnings at Dural, buying paint for our new house- it took forever because there were simply soo many colours to choose from, and we kept having to ask the guy how many litres would cover how many square metres for different rooms.

Finally though, we settled on our choices:
- Very light beige almost white for most of the house except:
- Dark red/dark purple feature wall for living room
- Chocolate brown feature wall for Bea's room
- Sea blue feature wall for my room

ooh I can't wait - for so long I've wanted a feature wall in my room, like in all the Home Improvement shows! and we checked out the courtyard- it's actually quite big!! Now for some ideas on what to do with that space....=)

anatomy?

Well I finally got around to getting some textbooks- Gray's Anatomy for students (yes it's actually a book, not a TV series), Medical Microbiology and Clinical Examination... totalled $366 I think?

So, to make good use of all that money, I spent some time looking at the overviews of each chapter in the anatomy textbook...

and yeah... some of the graphics were very. graphic.

>< ahhh my eyes! =.=

no one is righteous

"There are 2 good men: one's dead and the other's not yet born".
-- Anonymous

But for Christians:

There is 1 good man: He lives and His name is Jesus!

I've been doing a lot of Romans lately- in BSF, in CBS, and Christians in Med Bible Study, and so far everything's been revolving around Romans 1-3:20. How very depressing- a brutal and frank glimpse into what humanity is really like. 'There is no one righteous, not even one...There is no fear of God before their eyes.'

But thank God that's not where the story ends! For 'God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.' (Rom 5:8)

small world

Today was a very peculiar day in terms of the number of people who I met- some in the most random of places, and most whom I don't usually see!

1) Helen at Pennant Hills Station- only because she forgot her key and was waiting for her mum to drop it off
2) Doug at Strathfield Station
3) Shaz at Eddy Ave Bus Stands- both happened to be on our way to uni
4) Andrew and Selena- saw them waving from a bus
5) Dave, then Ash on the way up from Law to the library
6) Pearl coming down the stairs from Central
7) Alison who got on the train at Redfern
8) Emma who got off the train at Denistone
9) Ernie and Ambrose who walked past me at Epping

I told you I know half of the asian community of Sydney!! =P

cowra reunion

Yesterday we had our Cowra Beach Mission reunion! Yay it was so close to my place, only a 5min drive. Each section was in charge of a different item, so for JBs we were in charge of bringing salad.

So... lunch ended up being composed of many many different types of salad, and not much else. haha well there was bread, and someone bought roast chicken, and then there was Ian's (very delicious) roast beef.

But it was just soo nice seeing everyone again and catching up =D But I can't believe we had all these different types of fruit (eg apple, pear, pineapple, passionfruit) but NO WATERMELON!!

If there's one thing I learnt:

COWRA = WATERMELON

*sigh* I guess I'll just have to wait till next year to stuff myself with watermelon =P (If I recall correctly, at one point I remember counting 15 watermelons lined up against the wall next to the kitchen)

ahhh so many good memories from Cowra =)

oohhhh

www.storyphotography.com.au

Check it out - it's really nice!

A friend at church has his own photography business. The pictures are absolutely stunning... black and white photos look sooo good! Wow, and I'm very impressed with the site design (slick, simple grey and white colour theme, made with Flash)

*sigh* If only I was good at art... I'm no good, with absolutely no design skills - but I certainly can appreciate good stuff =)

introduction to anatomy

Yesterday we had our first prac for anatomy. Everyone was nervously waiting outside, wondering what it was going to be like.

But.. it wasn't so bad - after a while you got used to the smell. And I must say, it looks nothing like NCIS when they're doing the autopsy. Everything was sort of gray and strangely.. looked like plastic.

We didn't see a whole body, but there was one arm, a leg, middle part of the body (thank goodness, no faces) Also we got to touch what muscle, tendons, arteries and veins felt like.

It was very different to doing dissection at school... back then we only dealt with hearts, kidneys, eyes and rats. (All organs were animal organs ie sheep and cows)

I can't say I was particularly fascinated by it: but at least I didn't feel queasy or faint!

Leader's Intro @ EYF

Friday night was the first EYF of the year! It was exciting to see lots of youth turn up, and we had a nice relaxing night with singing, games, leader's intro and small group time- and very nice supper provided by the parents!

Sham and Doug did a great job with the leader's intro - it looked so pro! haha I suppose that's the advantage of having artsy people like architects teaming up with nerdy people like...musicians? well Doug's nerdy anyhow =P

We each had to send in a baby photo, plus 3 quirky things about ourselves and the youth had to try guess which leader was who. This was mine:

3 quirky things:
- I sniff food before consumption (especially fruit)
- My middle name is Bernadette
- I get emotionally attached to pieces of furniture (when I was little, I cried when my parents sold my favourite sofa)

hehe some of the other strange things I learned about my fellow leaders:
- Clare gets free toilet paper every month
- lil Joey talks to himself when he thinks no one is watching (ahh that explains a lot... =P)
- Shirley sleeps with her eyes open
- Cliff has one leg shorter than the other
- big Joey has crazy friends, like the guy who stapled his nipples for fun?!

oh and never ever accept a drink from Kevin. Who knows, it might have salt, soy sauce, margarine or wasabi in it!

*

So come to EYF - 1 Reserve St. West Ryde, 7:30 - 10pm Friday nights (except 4th Friday of each month) for great Bible Study with fun and friendly people, from highschool and uni.
