how great is his love!!
I was listening to Christians songs before my quiet time today. And it is not hard to become overwhelmed by God's amazing love for us. In fact, I felt like standing up and singing along and just praising God!
How does God show his love for us? Why does my heart almost burst with joy and love for Christ my Saviour? I could explain, but these song lyrics [DA Carson] do a much better job:
In this rebel world
In this rebel world where we fear the light,
All our gods must be domesticated, tame,
But the Sovereign Lord, who sees through the night,
Is not threatened by pretensions built on shame.
In majestic splendour God rules throughout our days:
He is holy in his deeds and wise in all his ways.
He is wise in all his ways.
Mighty Babylon and the Third Reich too,
Join the dust of empires that have passed away.
Full of strutting pride, mouthing boasts untrue,
They lie crushed before the God whose Word holds sway.
Surely all the nations are dust on the scales.
So with whom will you compare this God whose will prevails?
This God whose will prevails.
Not the patriarchs, not the priestly clans,
Not the wise in all their learning glimpsed the Cross.
Not the royal court, not the zealot bands
Thought that God would buy back rebels at such a cost.
Who has comprehended the wisdom of the Lord?
For the grandeur of his plans our God must be adored!
Yes our God must be adored!
Who will take the scroll in the Sovereign's hand,
Break the seals and bring God's purposes to pass?
While we wait in fear at what God has planned,
From the throne the Lion roars - and death has passed.
Sing to Christ the conqueror a new song full of praise.
For the triumph of the Lamb means God will have his way.
Our God will have his way!

To the praise of his glorious grace
What astonishing mercy and power:
In accord with his pleasure and will
He created each planet, each flower
Each galaxy, microbe and hill.
He suspended the planet in space-
To the praise of his glorious grace!
With despicable self love and rage
We rebelled and fell under the curse.
Yet God did not rip out the page
And destroy all who love the perverse.
No, He chose to make us a new race-
To the praise of his glorious grace!
Providentially ruling all things
To conform to the end he designed,
He mysteriously governs and brings
His eternal wise plans in time.
He works out every step, every trace-
To the praise of his glorious grace!
Long before creation began
He foreknew those he'd ransom in Christ,
Long before time's cold hour-glass ran
He ordained the supreme sacrifice.
In the cross he removed our disgrace-
To the praise of his glorious grace!
We were blessed in the heavenly realms
Long before being included in Christ.
Since we heard the good news, overwhelmed,
We reach forward to seize Paradise.
We shall see Him ourselves, face to face
To the praise of his glorious grace!

May we have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is this love that we be filled to the measure of the fullness of God! And to never take it for granted.
